The crazy thing is that most EVs are able to pre-condition their own batteries, if the owner chooses to warm the car before driving. (we have 2 EVs, if you’re wondering how I know this).
I have seen a YouTube video of a Scandinavian driving a Kia Niro EV in temps around -30C without too much difficulty – the only things that complained were the suspension bushes, which were probably frozen solid!

I saw an article about this the other day, and can’t help but think that “toaster” is a mistranslation.
I’ll bet its actually something like an [external engine block heater](https://www.thedrive.com/maintenance-repair/36647/engine-block-heater), which is *colloquially* called something like “toaster” in Danish.
edit: Seems I might be wrong about this, as apparently the Danish have [weird toasters like this](https://imgur.com/gallery/dMqMLRw).

Clearly wasn’t a Tesla otherwise that would have been in the title.
