On the one hand, a carefully prepared octopus is delicious. On the other hand, they are basically little people who have some idea of their own mortality.
This proposed octopus farm in Spain is incredibly cruel, in my opinion. I’m hoping that by sharing this news story, I’ll be able to see what other people on /r/europe think about it and start a discussion.
It disgusts me that octopuses are smarter than the majority of people I’ve encountered. They receive the same protection under laws governing animal welfare as vertebrate animals for a reason. It should be forbidden to harm or kill octopuses everywhere.
barbaric and abhorrent. It will result in unimaginable levels of suffering to subject some of the most intelligent creatures on the planet to those conditions.

My daughter and I pulled up a prawn trap with a baby octopus on top. We saw it just as it came out of the water and it flashed colours as we lowered it back into the chuck. Kid was 4 and said goodbye to the thing just as it let go a cloud of black. “He inked at us! He inked goodbye!” she squealled.

I’ve eaten fried vegan squid. One of my all-time favorite foods, it was amazing.
My vegan companion, who had eaten real squid before switching to veganism, concurred and said it tasted exactly like the animal version.
Having said that, why on earth do we need to farm octopus? Omnivores are bad

I’m sure it will be fine. Pigs are pretty smart and I can force myself to not think about that and shamelessly still eat them.
