As a bird Enthusiast I’ve never understood the fear of any bird. I walk around a lake in my local community and there’s a woman that will stand petrified on the path if there is a Canadian goose anywhere near her. Someone, oftentimes myself, will just have to walk over and shoot them away before she can continue. I can’t imagine why she’s that scared of them but she truly is. I haven’t figured out why she comes and walks around a lake lol.
Staten Island native and avid Birder checking in! Those in the comments questioning how anyone is afraid of a bird, normally I would agree, but you have not Met Staten Island Turkeys. I know for certain that if you go to Staten Island University hospital you will need to say a prayer to the Turkey God to make it through the flock of 30 turkeys undoubtedly outside of this hospital. And these birds behave less like a flock and more like a pack of wild dogs. They follow people, damage cars, [harass cemetery-goers and even provide a pre-dawn wake up service no one asked for](https://www.silive.com/opinion/letters/2023/04/staten-island-turkey-problem-is-truly-disgusting-letter-to-the-editor.html). Locals have been trying for decades to find solutions including relocation to animal sanctuaries to culling the population. The turkey population has only continued increasing and in the last few years expanding their range. By 2040 100% of staten islands remaining population will be turkeys. (The rest of the humans will move to NJ, probably)

Turkeys can be viscous, unless they are on a dinner plate.
