This was in my local news, and they knew he did it on purpose from the get-go. It was such a fucked situation and I can’t even imagine how his family must have felt waiting to be rescued with him also in the car.
And his wife, in typical cridis mode fashion that we women wear, dodn’t want charges pressed. She’s thinking the kids, finances, embarrassment…but honey…

No. Do NOT give this man a pass. Think of the terror those little kids went through accelerating straight for that cliff. He MUST be prosecuted. Lots of people are depressed. You don’t get to kill your whole family because *you* are despondent.
A good example that even people who are very smart or talented can also be affected by very severe mental illness or act criminally harmful or both
Such as depression or bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder or just be dangerous to themselves and others for other reasons…
Or even all of the above
If I were a betting man there is some smi (severe mental illness) involving some or all of drugs, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder
Thankfully most of us with mood disorders like depression or anxiety don’t ever get to these points of harming others
