“Once we gave people the ability to judge other people, I think we ran amok with it, and it’s gone out of control… They invited the public to decide who that person was. Once we did that, it began us in a cycle.”
Good take. Now the show turned into who has the best sob story and pity me more!
Jerry Springer said the same thing about [his show](https://www.insider.com/jerry-springer-thinks-his-tabloid-talk-show-ruined-culture-2022-11). Entertainment’s race to the bottom for “mass appeal” has turned it into an industry for affirming people’s magical thinking and sanctimonious beliefs. Glorifying attention seeking behaviour and intellectual laziness absolutely has contributed to the mess we’ve made of society today, where these things have taken over many people’s values at the expense of everything else.
Society needs to stigmatize wanting to be famous for being famous, being rewarded for amusing yourself or getting attention for having opinions about how you prefer to do so. We put way too much value in that and far too little in responsibility and effort.

Nothing of value has ever followed the statement, “Whoopi Goldberg says.”

Should have been either “Survivor” (Reality TV in general) or “the Apprentice” (a particular Florida Man).

I was sure it was “Survivor.” Suddenly trained actors were out of jobs, cheap, narcissistic non-actors were in. It allwent downhill from there.

Is that what happened? I’ve heard everything from Harambe to the Mayans.
