DethFiesta: Most of the Framers were Deists. It was an extremely common point of view among the educated during the Enlightenment.
something4222: So basically we’re one of the saves in God’s SimWorld game that he looked at after a few days, went “meh,” and then moved on to start a new file.
I feel you, God.
jverity: TIL I’m an agnostic deist. I’m note sure if there’s a god or not, but if there is, I don’t believe he screws with the universe he made.
coatrack68: I thought most of the founding fathers were?
roadtrip-ne: The idea that the universe is a simulation also supports a creator that does not interfere with the program once running.
nerbovig: Amazing that it was controversial to *not* think that our day-to-day actions could incite God to act for or against us.
lllSnowmanlll: That’s the modern definition of a deist. Words change over time.
Now if you look at a dictionary from the 1700s a deist is someone who believes in God, but follows no particular religion.
bolanrox: Yes indeed
penultimate_supper: I always wonder what the deist God is up to now. Is he a Youtuber doing a 200+ AI civilization play-through and just watching us all? Did he forget about creation? Does he make thousands of different versions of the universe with different starting variable to see how they play out?
Random-Miser: An omniscient, all powerful deity would have no need to to do anything after creating a universe, as they would already know exactly how everything would end up when they made it. They would already know every action every person would make, and how they would end up from beginning to end. Like a 4th dimensional sculptor. this of course means that said god specifically made things from the very beginning to include every horrible atrocity imaginable.
toUser: Cool but what does that have to do with net neutrality!!!!!!!?????
A40: “What we call ‘God’ was a *huge.. single*… event. An inconceivable.. *explosion* of creation, a.. *large boom!”*
brittleknight: I love the Jefferson bible so unique
jumbee85: A few of the founding fathers were
sppratam: On the seventh day, God rested.
An object at rest tends to remain at rest.
WhatACunningHam: I’m thinking the universe came about like the invention of fireworks. God was cooking, decided to experiment, and shit just blew up.
screenwritingguy: Ethan Allen was also a Deist. Many of the founding fathers were, I feel like.
