Landlubber77: And to get them used to being all by themselves for the rest of their lives.
thxxx1337: So why did they take it away when Windows got so much more frustrating?
abrahamhitler: “Hey, did you figure out how to use windows yet?”
“Not really, I’ve been playing solitaire for the last 8 hours”
Randolm: The summer intern that developed (ported) it actually claims that the inclusion of the game was really just for people to have fun with, rather than the official claim of it being a ‘mouse instructional aid’.
Which makes sense. If you opened the game you’ve pretty much mastered the mouse.
“Microsoft officially said that Solitaire was there to teach people how to use the mouse, but in reality it was just something to have fun with,” Source: https://www.theverge.com/2017/4/13/15285780/windows-solitaire-original-bored-intern
trutrojan8: Yes, I also viewed the comments from the post of the girl who received Windows 95 for Christmas
bob_in_a_blue_cup: I only played for the win graphic.
TooShiftyForYou: They also included 3D Pinball because it was just awesome at the time.
Hipolipolopigus: And now we get Candy Crush, to teach people about bloatware.
tiffanyrachel: When you graduate from an online university, the end of solitaire plays on screen.
vault-of-secrets: Solitaire, Hearts, Minesweeper, and Pinball were the height of PC gaming at one time.
pedj2: I thought it was there to sooth people after getting eaten by that stupid dinosaur in that stupid skiiing game =D
goldenreaper: I bet free cell was added to antagonize people
Ashen_Cyborg: I never played much of solitaire. But I enjoyed randomly clicking all over the place while “playing” minesweeper.
Ah, the good ol’ days.
PenultimateFrisbee: Fuckin’ Mircosoft
beendoneunderthesun: I’m really grateful all of my family members are excellent PC users.
My grandpa built my parents a PC in like 96 and named it “DAD”
Just to annoy my dad.
ProbablyHighAsShit: [So soothing](https://media.giphy.com/media/exTeXkpa1h6CI/giphy.gif)
Thunderous_Pupil: This title is nauseating
Solid_Waste: It works. My grandad never used a computer before and now he plays windows solitaire everyday.
He can’t do anything *else* on his PC, but still.
snoozeflu: If I’m not mistaken, Solitaire isn’t included w/ Windows for free anymore. I think it’s like $20 / year or something like that.
Godofsaviour: Mircosoft
haveyouseenmywetsuit: Soothe people. I still can’t play the damn game properly.
paulverized: Hands down best software Microsoft ever created or ever will.
OldSkooler1212: Windows 3.0 and Windows 3.11 for workgroups were applications that run under the DOS operating system. Windows 3.0 could (and did) crash but you’d still be running your DOS OS and you could restart Windows at the command prompt.
Michigannnnnn: Microsoft needs to work on their constant updates with their gaming systems. JC! I upgrade more than I play the games.
vladtaltos: And most importantly, it helped the end user learn how to use both the mouse and drag and drop, thus cutting down on support calls and costs for Microsoft.
An_Lochlannach: And then minesweeper was for undoing all that soothing?
i_hope_i_remember: Piece of useless trivia. My SO has the record for most games played of MS Solitaire on Vista. 74,150 games.
T10_Luckdraw: Now they use it to get people used to paying for things that used to be free. Like Ad-free Solitaire.
saidos: I would have opted for tarot cards, nothing soothes me like drawing death.
TheOneAboveAll: Too bad in Windows 10 Solitare has full screen video ads that can only be removed by paying $10 a year for something that originally was ad free and cost nothing.
yertle38: That’s mirkosoft
pacoliketaco: My record is 35 seconds. ^I’m ^so ^bored
cmdtekvr: Today you learned a lie lol
PM_ME_YOUR_LIBTARDS: This is posted often. This is common knowledge. Sorry you’re learning this just now.
alhexus: “Mircosoft”
qster123: I thought it was to gauge how fast my new gfx card was
YeahNahLol: Smart plays Microsoft.
Muggi: It’s still used for this too – the local senior center set my 82yo Mom up on it to learn using a mouse
howthefuq: I too, saw the picture of the girl who wanted windows 95 for christmas
Am3ricus: I’d believe it. mIRC is what taught me to type.
I remember going to my first computer class in school and typing 60 WPM when everyone was hunting for the ‘A’ key. Felt pretty cool that day… 😉
ByeByeFlutterPie: Microsoft Solitaire Collection is much better now. Don’t you worry.
jamestere: Lofl worked on my dad
jamongmongi: So having my dad start there was the best introduction to computers all along?
destijl-atmospheres: In the Windows 95 era, my friend broke his mouse and relied on using the arrow keys with solitaire to move the cursor around.
L33TGhostman: My grandpa was highly upset when his new pc didn’t have solitaire (90% o his pc use)
irving47: It worked. In spades.
internally: I actually got a laptop today as a present that comes with their Solitaire collection with instructions and everything. Really sweet.
sergalahadabeer: I’ve been Solitaire free for almost a decade. Never again.
oscardagrach: I always felt like an oddball loving Hearts when everyone was about that solitaire scene.
DocNoob: I thought it was for the benefit of government workers especially the DMV
lylefk: I spent many more hours on the game where you have a space with balls bouncing around inside and you built walls to divide them into as small of a space as possible. Then Minesweeper.
tifftafflarry: My mother would never have been able to use a computer, if not for Solitaire.
btinc: Stolen from some other company, I’m sure.
api10: And Spider Solitaire is to teach people how to be friends with spiders.
protocol-droid-82: I still play Solitaire on my phone for stress relief.
Judo_John_Malone: Such old info. Been posted many times.
mg_z: Mircosoft ???
ts2017: True
crea-tor: Anyone else start playing solitaire just now?
RetardedChimpanzee: That sounds like how my high school field trip was to a theme park so we could see animals and observe nature.
LGRW_16: I too read that thread.
PDespereaux: I’m convinced Minesweeper was a secret clicking tutorial.
chadork: Huh. I just used it pass time while my mom finished her paperwork at the architect office after she picked me up from school.
cakeboy1995: Solitaire was the gateway to my dad discovering internet porn
Broskah: And now look at Windows 10 with Candy Crush..
InsaneBeagle: That’s also the reasoning for minesweeper
slayman2000: And the guy who made it was an intern that got paid nothing.
bishbaby65: The mouse blowing people’s minds
