> But across the state, certified vehicle inspectors are crying foul, warning the bill could put more unsafe cars and Texas roads, and pointing out that, under the current proposal, **the state would continue to collect fees from drivers, even after inspections go away.**
>And, in the DFW area, where the large urban counties are under federal emissions testing requirements, **drivers would still be required to get an annual emissions inspection, even if the state safety inspections are eliminated.**

Not sure if it’s the same case for Louisiana, but “inspections” is they just ask for the milage on your car, don’t check anything, and make me pay $20 for a sticker. I could understand if they actually did something but if they aren’t doing it I’m thinking what’s the point?
Installing common sense based laws in a place where the average IQ is lukewarm is like giving a monkey a machine gun. You hope nothing goes wrong, but then it’s the planet of the apes.
If you didn’t legislate stupid we’d be living in Idiocracy. I mean, more so than we currently do.
Before everyone jumps on the “Texas is stupid” bandwagon, I lived in Washington and Illinois before I moved to Texas and never had state-required “Vehicle Safety Inspections”, which are separate from emissions checks and somehow not fulfilled when I take my car to the dealer for its regular inspection and oil change. I do view them as a bit of a scam.
There’s a couple of YouTube channels that have shops that send in short clips of the POS condition cars some states allow on there roads. It dangerous for everyone and I hope the Western states ban uninspected cars from driving on our roads.
This is a good thing not a bad thing. It’s a cash grab and ineffective. Just come down to Houston and tell me how half of the cars on the road passed….
Safety inspections are a scam, it’s just a tax. They don’t actually check the safety of anything they just make you pay and then you get a pass.
Even if they wanted to test safety it would be so insanely cost Prohibitive. What would they do get a team of engineers out and do a full diagnosis with testing. You’d have to drop your car off for a couple of weeks for them to run a full safety battery.
Emissions has a verifiable and realistic testing standard. Safety really doesn’t.
Also, if i pay the safety sticker i shouldn’t also be able to receive a ticket for any safety related issue on my car because the state already certified my car was safe

A lot of states do not require inspections. Because it’s just another shitty tax.

this inspection is not required in california; the problem is stopping the inspection and keeping the fee.
