Anyone saying the textbook has too much <something> should just homeschool their kids. These people not wanting their kids to learn things does not negate the right for other kids to learn things.
Let them say it out loud: “Any Black history is too much Black history”. Why is it obvious that they are racists? Because they’ve never complained about too much White history, too much praise heaped on the country’s founders, too many White, male success stories.
Now that people from diverse backgrounds want their stories of oppression told (which usually dovetails perfectly with their history), it’s all suddenly too much. “I don’t want to hear about your racial, economic, religious and sexual struggles. I only want to hear about the untrammeled successes of the *real* people who built this country, and don’t try to throw in any of the atrocities that they created or fomented along the way. And no uppity women, either! Just sunshine and lollipops for me!”
At least if they would admit to their biases, I could muster some respect for their honesty. But they won’t. They won’t even admit to the duplicity that pervades political discourse *right now*, so there’s no way that they will acknowledge it from hundreds of years ago.
Why are ‘conservatives’ so fucking backwards – I used to lean heavily republican under the premise of fiscal minimalism but holy shit they are off the rails… on everything: monetary policy, social policy, foreign diplomacy, and the list continues to grow.
The article was about how Alabama gets textbooks and the influence Texas and. California have on them. They used a quote from a random nobody to get make a good headline. Pretty common media trick
Now just imagine if black and brown parents started complaining about there being too much white history being taught in schools and started demanding censorship

I’m sure they’re very uncomfortable with the frequent appearances of Birmingham in those text books
