Roald Dahl’s Work Rewritten by Publisher Puffin .An extensive report by U.K. newspaper The Telegraph says “language related to weight, mental health, violence, gender and race has been cut and rewritten.”
Freedom of speech is dying. Governor Ron De Santis is doing the same thing in the US. Both the right and left are in a race to ban and censor literature they deem offensive. It’s like we’re regressing to dictatorships.
Thank God. Imagine children being exposed to dangerous ideas about health and kindness.
I imagine “The Twits” was incredibly offensive to people who are like them. We should definitely be concerned with keeping those kinds of people happy.
How do they expect to have literature that doesn’t offend *someone*?
It won’t be long before only the most hideous and deformed people are allowed to work in the media. Anyone else would be body shaming unattractive people.
And, of course, soon we will have doctors not being allowed to treat illnesses or fix injuries and disabilities, because doing so implies there is something wrong with being sick or disabled. Which is highly offensive.
I mean, I read The Great Glass Elevator to my son last year and it was full of anti-asian racist terms. I would have liked the updated version. It’s not like they are banning the originals, but they’d probably like to keep selling them to modern parents and this is how they’ll do it.
As someone who grew up reading his books, I find this unfortunate. I understand that our views have changed as a whole but I don’t agree with altering literature to make it more digestible.
