I have some experience with this. Usually only very expensive competition horses get transported like this.
Horses are generally in very tight crates on the plane and some do not like it at all. Usually the horse’s groom is with the horse to make sure they are fed and watered and calm. Some airlines don’t like this so they provide their own grooms who are often not as good as the own horse’s groom.
I’m gonna take a wile guess that no one on the plane enjoyed the horse getting loose. It _should_ have been immediately sedated, but they collapse and there isn’t much room for them to do this, so often it’s goodbye horse until they can remove it from the plane when they land.
It’s almost a certainly a sad ending for this panicked horse, a sad outcome for its carers.
And my god, they dumped TWENTY TONS of fuel in the ocean in order to return to JFK….
“The flight was forced to make a U-turn off the coast of Boston and dump about 20 tons of fuel over the Atlantic, “10 miles west of Martha’s Vinyard,” due to the flight’s weight, according to the audio.”
