I’m sure this explains why they feel the need to buy bigger and bigger vehicles. All those damn squishy cyclists around threatening them in their tin boxes.
I cycle, and I try to keep an open mind. Cars hitting cyclists are negligence, malice. Ill probably get hit one id these days oh well, I assume the risk.
But I can’t help but witness when i’m a passenger in a car and the driver comes upon a cyclist on the road and they just lose it. *Man, what a fucking jerk this oeice if shit cycling just trying to get everyone killed i should bump him off the road just to save lives man!!!* Like, several times with different drivers.
So far this year, drivers in our inner city neighborhood have protected themselves against two elders in wheelchairs, a half dozen cyclists – most run down while waiting at a light – and over a dozen pedestrians.
Stay safe, drivers. You only have 1,500 lbs of steel, safety-glass, turning lights, a horn and 300 laws keeping you safe from the scary citizens with sexy legs.
They don’t affect my safety as a driver that much, just my nerves. They are a much larger risk to pedestrians and scooter users than to cars where I live. Too many show zero respect for stop lights or cross walks.
As a motorcyclist I was trained to believe every other fucker on the road is a homicidal maniac actively out to kill.
Cyclists seem to think that every other road user must accommodate them. I’m fine with doing my part, but here in Cambridge UK, cyclists often wear dark clothing, ride in the dark, with no lights, no reflectors, jump traffic lights, ride the wrong way down one way streets, ride while using their phone. It’s like lemmings trying to commit suicide.
Just recently I was waiting to turn left at a light (in the US, so like a right at a busy intersection in the UK) and when I got a green arrow and was about to go, a cyclist blasted through the crosswalk from right to left in front of me. I slammed on my breaks and he gave me this exasperated look and a sarcastic little wave as if I had done something wrong.
When I’m driving I talk plenty of shit to myself, but I’m not one to get legitimately angry. That one pissed me right off though.
Being an asshat on the road puts others at risk no matter what vehicle you’re using and the rise of ‘defensive cycling’ – basically just ignoring the rules of the road – has exacerbated the situation no end.
These kinds of threads on r/unitedkingdom always get brigaded by people from various cycling subreddits, along with those who sub to the likes of r/fuckcars – and invariably descend into a circlejerk where the cyclists just come off [like this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s0XsulDXtk). For any real and reasoned points you have to sort by controversial, and even then it’s a shitshow, lol.
It’s so predictable, it’s comical.
Don’t be a dick on the road, kids – it’s really that easy.
During last several years in NYC, when crossing the street I am far more vigilant of bicycles and scooters than cars. Harder to see, coming from all directions and not willing to yield to traffic lights, people, cars, or each other. Particularly the delivery ones but not exclusively.

Idiot-suicidal cyclists more so than aggressive.

Not in the UK but in my city cyclists don’t pick whether to act as pedestrians or cars, red light? Who cares!, crosswalk? Mine!

I don’t feel threatened by cyclists, car easily beats bike every time.

Cyclists aren’t the problem. Drivers swerving into oncoming traffic around a blind corner while trying to *pass* a cyclist, on the other hand…

Car drivers are 10 times more likely to die of a heart attack than a bicycle driver. Look it up. I’m right. I took a poll
