    Postcode lottery.

    Postcode lottery.

That’s what they want to give me.

For a while, I had 5 music students (piano, violin, trumpet) living next door to me. What most people don’t even realize is that when they practice, they frequently repeat the same 10 bars for hours on end rather than actually playing songs. Absolute misery.

How about she either goes to a place with said people to practice or sound proof her apartment?

There are solutions but she sounds like she just wants to complain

To me, it seems pretty reasonable. I wouldn’t tolerate someone playing their instrument through my walls all day. It’s unfortunate that there aren’t any reasonably priced practice facilities to assist musicians in this situation, but I don’t believe that working musicians should be exempt from the rules governing acceptable noise levels in residential areas.

I used to live above a lady who practiced piano for 3 hours every morning. Every morning she would play the same song over and over to warm up. I think it was pop goes the weasel or some other children’s song. There wasn’t anyplace you could go where you couldn’t hear it and it drove me mad. For some reason management decided that was ok

“The report from this professional witness confirmed that the music from the residence was audible within the complainant’s home and was at an unreasonable level.”

She obviously has rights. But those rights end when they interfere with other’s rights to peace and quiet.

Oi you got a loicense for yore sound

There would be no musicians if they couldn’t practise in their homes.

What if your neighbor’s children are yelling? In light of the commotion, can you report them somewhere?

I have mixed feelings about this. As someone from a musical family, and someone who plays instruments and likes to sing along (badly) with streaming music, I sympathize. Especially if you’re a professional musician / performer. Should you really have to go rent or borrow space to practice?

On the other hand, I would not want to listen to someone practicing for hours a day. Especially in a poorly insulated building. You never know what a person may be dealing with – an elderly family member, a sick family member, a newborn, someone who works nightshifts, someone who is overly sensitive to or triggered by noises, etc., etc., etc.

I’m a professional musician. We have to rent studios to practice. Pretty common.
