Everyone always vilifies Big Oil, and ironically they have the most transparent pricing displayed on huge signs with all taxes already included. None of that crap where on checkout theres now 3 different fees added, and then state and federal taxes. What’s on the sign is what you pay.
Meanwhile the Medical and Pharma industries laugh all the way to the bank. Look at all the drug shortages we are having right now. These folks are killing people because they cannot get their drugs, or cannot afford them.
Then let’s not even talk about the housing market where hedge funds are driving up prices, by snapping up homes and then renting them out at increasing rent prices.
So while you may hate the oil companies, just remember the government is often making more money in taxes on a gallon of gas than the oil company is. Just don’t let that distract you from the real villains in our day to day lives.
Lol excess profits. It’s Greed and Oligopoly. You can only accomplish being greedy if there isn’t enough competition to compete against. Some things this happens naturally as new technology arises, but when people start getting very wealthy of commodities like eggs, bread, etc… that means the healthy competition part of capitalism is fuckin broke
Can we please just stop posting regular news on /r/nottheeonion? I know the bar of ridiculousness has shifted significantly since 2016, but there should at least be an attempt, and this wasn’t even oniony ten years ago.

Every time in the last 30 years that the US has had a “recession” and a “fuel/oil crisis” ExxonMobile has recorded record profits. In the mid 90s:
Diesel costs suddenly skyrocketed due to “a new process”,
Independent truck drivers were losing their businesses
The FTC was focused on Howard Stern while senators held secret board positions on wall street.
The housing financing sector was passing out crazy home loans
Dick Chenney was becoming richest man in history through no bid contracts to support a war based on false information
ExxonMobil recorded the largest profit margin in United States History.
