There’s a desire to include more black representation in films by casting back characters, and also portraying North African Historical figures like Septimus Severus (first african-born emperor of Rome) as black.
Reality is the history of the Mediterranean meant these folks were extremely light skinned. They would have looked Phoenician or Greek.
I believe in more representation of black characters in film.
The challenge should be to go and find great stories with black protagonists.
Jada Pinkett Smith, the American actress who was executive producer and narrator, was meanwhile quoted as saying: “We don’t often get to see or hear stories about black queens, and that was really important for me, as well as for my daughter, and just for my community to be able to know those stories because there are tons of them!”
Cleopatra was a Macedonian Greek, with a some Persian ancestry, who ruled over Ancient Egypt
The majority of Egyptians were not sub Saharan African, most were not black, Egyptians were another North African, Mediterranean people who were usually bronze at best, similar in color and phenotype to Arabs today.
Nearby to the South of Egypt was Nubia, or the Kingdom of Kush, which was(and modern Sudan still is) a black majority nation. Most black Egyptians would be found in Upper Egypt, right next to Nubia.
Queen Amanirenas, the ruler of Nubia/Kush, who lived at the same time of Cleopatra would have been an excellent candidate for a black female ruler for Netflix’s show.
But no, Netflix wants to their documentary to appease the fantasies of Jada and her ilk such as the Hoteps, all these weirdos trying to “reclaim” Egypt which was never a majority black nation, Cleopatra born and died as a Greek woman.

Not this. This isn’t healthy.
