One time my friends and I were camping in Tofino. We had a non-provincial park campsite around Canada Day, and set up a bunch of tents and had our food stored properly away. We knew there was a bear in the area, an adolescent friendly guy, but we knew he would be up to no good so we made sure we took precautions. We put all the food up, leaving a couple coolers full of beer on the ground in the camp site.
The first night I’m sleeping in a tiny tent being awoken to the bear sniffing my face. I accidentally left my tent open for some drunken reason. I quickly pull away, and scare the creeper bear away.
The next night he didn’t bother us, but watched from a distance as we drank and partied. We stayed vigilant about our food spoils, and made sure he couldn’t come back into any of our tents.
The last night was when the bear struck.
We awoke that morning to a mangled cooler. But what was odd was what was taken and what was not. We had two types of beer – Kokanee and Canadian. ALL of the Kokanee was drank, and only 1 Canadian had been touched. I have no idea why. I can’t even tell the difference. From that day on, I know that bears not only care about drinks from cans, they have preferences.
On our way home, we saw paddington rolling around in a creek bed acting like a wacky roly poly
