YSK that the iPhone has medical information accessible by holding the lock button (or lock+volume down for iPhone X) which contains the identity of the phone owner, medications they take, known conditions, allergies, and organ donor information

| Category: Know

I thought it might be a good idea to post this info after reading a thread about a trauma surgeon who found a lost iPhone and didn’t know about this feature.

Also for those of you who have an iPhone and haven’t set up your Medical ID, you can do so in the Apple Health app.

The quality of the iPhone camera spanning all 6 models

yuk0njack: I don’t like that they’ve changed and complicated the key combo for this. Any first responder who knows this procedure, and I’m sure there aren’t many who do, now has to relearn it on a whim from Apple.

Maybe there should be an international standard for medical information accessibility, like tap Volume Down three times or something.

AtlasWontPutMeDown: I use this. I’m worried that a first responder won’t know about this function or won’t check it if I’m found unconscious. But I use it just in case.

JohnnyHighGround: Two things: it appears to be Power plus Vol Down on my 8 Plus as well.

And, this can also be accessed by hitting Power five times quickly.

os2mac: actually to access it in the most current version on anything but the iphone X you have to press the lock button 5 times rapidly.

sc0rcher: You can also view the information by trying to unlock the phone, press Emergency > Medical ID. This way doesnt require a key combo and first responders will see it when the passcode screen is shown

Novorossiyan: I’m sure organ harvesters would be interested in this info, just in case.

pmercier: But for some reason you can’t add your insurance card to wallet…

Vaguely_Disreputable: Why does Apple know what medications you take?
