So did I. The difference is, that I know that it was unnecessary for that sewerage to be in the sea then, and it is unnecessary now, and not just unnecessary, but evidence of VAST fraud.
At some point between my childhood, and the present day, both of which feature the presence of human excrement in our waterways and coastal water, there was a big effort to keep the beaches and the coastal waters free of this stuff. Our local beach won blue flags for the cleanliness of its beaches and water, for several years running, during that period.
This did not come for free. We paid more for our sewer management, and, indeed, for a time, that seemed to work. For the entire time since the effort began to sort it out originally, my community was paying more for sewerage management and treatment. It still is. However, at some stage between the improved period and now, monies meant to keep our sewerage from being pumped into our rivers and onto our coasts, stopped being spent on that, and started finding its way into the pockets of extremely wealthy people.
It should be noted that, at no point has the consumer side cost of sewerage management declined, in fact it has gone up, not in line with inflation or other economic impacts, just up even accounting for all economic factors external to that, despite the fact that the comparative cost of doing the work has not changed. So, we are still paying for the improved service, and instead are getting shafted, robbed, cheated, swindled, defrauded.
The water company execs and shareholders, need dragging out the back, and beating with hammers until squishy, then, once they are good and tender, flushing out the same pipe they’ve been squeezing our shit out of, so that the fish can have their revenge, and we can get the sewer companies working to benefit us, and not themselves.
