A sheriff’s office in Illinois reported that Volkswagen’s Car-Net service refused to help track a stolen car with a 2-year-old boy inside, as the car’s subscription had expired. The detective reportedly pleaded for assistance due to the “extremely exigent circumstance,” but the representative said that $150 was needed to restart the service and locate the SUV. Volkswagen admits a “serious breach” of its process for working with law enforcement in this incident. By the time officers paid the $150, the car had already been located by other means. The woman who owned the car was injured, and the 2-year-old child was rescued by a passerby who found the abandoned car.
So what I am hearing in the comments is that anyone can call up Volkswagen and say Im a cop, I should get free info on where my ~~girlfriend’s~~ kidnapped baby’s car is?
Or is it that no cop anywhere has a credit card they can expense things in in what apparently is a life threatening emergency?
Are there not proper channels for this? Shouldn’t they need a warrant or judges orders?
