Whatever term is used to describe a disability will always become an insult. Autistic is becoming an insult, and the term before that became an insult, as did the term before that and the term before that and the term before that and even the term before that.
This is because people with disabilities are othered and stigmatised. Which is exacerbated by groups which pressure people to be careful what they say around people with disabilities.
Stigmatising the disabled community by being irritating people who you have to be careful what you say around is exactly the sort of thing that many organisations are trying to prevent.
