Phones should be banned in school for a number of obvious reasons.
As far as bullying and fights, kids film and have the shield of being behind the camera. Rather than step in, break it up, or get help, it’s an opportunity to create content.
And when filmed it’s further bullying having the embarrassment immortalized online for millions to watch.
This is totally my bias, but I am baffled that a school banning cell phones is somehow news? I just assumed that was standard policy? Especially for a middle school.
Ah, yes, banning cellphones will fix all the bulling..
Schools don’t care about bullied kids. At my school, teachers would witness bulling, and as long as it wasn’t physical, they didn’t care. Hell, I was jumped, and a teacher saw it and still didn’t do anything. I reported the assault, and the teacher tried to get me to not report it. When I pressed, he wrote it up, and I was sent to court with my assailant for “fighting” missed school for 2 days while waiting in court. The prosecutor was livid that the school was retaliating towards the victim for reporting a crime.
The principle was pissed when charges were dropped against me and threw me in ISS for a week or so.
My comment might get buried but I went to this middle school and bullying was a big problem then. This was way before personal cell phones for kids were a thing.

In my middle school they punished the kids who were bullied equally with the bullies.

The school board is comprised of ppl with “back the blue” bumper stickers who don’t think cops should wear body cams.
