Let me guess, the concern is that the fan edited the video between the play, and showing it to the ref 20 seconds later? What fucking idiotic decision making. Anything which allows refs to make correct calls is better.
“Farouk left the pitch under police protection, amid protests from Al-Nasr players and officials, who have threatened to take legal action against the referee for violating the regulations.”
Jeez, just all around awful.
So, he used the fan’s phone because the league doesn’t have one, and the team he ruled against got pissy, threatened to sue, and he was suspended. It’s unclear to me the exact reason why he was suspended. But that’s what I could gather from the article and the attached tweet (which I had to use lens to translate)
As I referee I always refuse to watch videos offered by spectators or others.
The only allowed system is VAR and obviously 99% of the games played don’t have that system implemented

Whoever owned that phone is never going to stop telling that story.
“Hey, nice phone. You know, my phone once got a referee suspended.”
“Oh, you like football? Me, too! I actually got a referee suspended once.”
“I heard that you got dumped, so I’m calling you with my phone… which actually got a refer…” CLICK!

Bring on the AI refs already. Sick of them not utilizing technology to call games. Might make them actually interesting.
