“The Senate also gave final passage to Senate Bill 1396, authored by Sen. Mayes Middleton,
R-Galveston, which would allow public and charter schools to adopt a
policy requiring every campus to set aside a time for students and
employees to read the Bible or other religious texts and to pray.”
Oh, for fuck’s sake. Can Texas and Florida pump the brakes a little with this evangelical shit? Those kids aren’t going to be reading the bible or other religious texts (nice nod there to ‘other religions’).
They’ll be on their phones looking at Tik Tok or making plans to meet up later and generally goofing off instead of ya know.. learning anything
What’s scary is that shit’s gotten so goofy that this garage is passable today. Even “the moral majority” in the 80’s couldn’t manage this nonsense but today it seems more reasonable than the alternatives to enough morons who can’t think for themselves that they’ll go in for it.
This is a waste of taxpayer money 3 times. First the time it took to write and pass the bill, the second the time to start implementing the bill, the third the time it takes to defend the bill in court all the way up to the Supreme Court which should strike it down with impunity.
Brazen violation of the establishment clause, but who knows? Maybe the supreme court will rule that the establishment clause was only meant to apply to purple-spotted newts or something

Forcing religion is a great way to repel people from that superstitious mindset…keep bringing it.

Hey Texas. We literally have something called the establishment clause. You know what that’s for? It’s for not establishing a religion.
Also, what if these students are Muslim, Hindu, Jewish or Buddhist? Do they get to pray? Or is it only for Christians like these laws always are?
