I’m an American who lives in France. For decades there was a famous drag show nightclub in Paris named « Chez Michou » (it still exists but the founder died recently). The owner was indeed gay but the show was really nothing more than a barrel of laughs – drag queens singing (or lip synching), telling jokes, etc. People, straight, gay or anything in between would come by the bus load from all over France to see the show – it was considered a top tourist attraction, like going to the Moulin Rouge or the Folies Bergère.
