great, i hope 50% of women feel the same way. in that incredibly rare situation where it’s necessary for a layperson to land a plane, i’d hope they at least had confidence in their ability.

I thought so, too. Then I started to play MS Flight Simulator, and now I am pretty sure I would just crash anything that is bigger than a Cessna.

Well there’s only one way to find out

Well there have been a lot of successful talk-down landings in the event of an incapacitated pilot, which is what the survey actually asked about. I couldn’t really find any where anyone died.

statistics actually back them up. The percentage of people having to remote land planes have a close to 100% success rate.

I’ve played enough Flight Simulator to know how.

Assuming proper guidance and instrumentation to assist? I mean, I think most people probably could, myself included. This is more a function of the air traffic control folks and the flight instruments than the actual person, though, and it would still a terrible idea for me to take the controls of a plane unless there are no trained capable pilots around. Just because a person can be talked through it in an emergency does not mean it’s a good idea under ordinary circumatstances.
