Love the quote at the end: “it’s about protecting children”. Ok got it, so books = bad for kids but another school shooting: “nothing we can do”. These people have their heads so far up their asses they don’t see anything but their own black heart.
Some are criticizing the lack of finesse or detail in the article. NONE IS NEEDED. *Rage against the machine* sang it over 25 years ago: “They don’t gotta burn the books, they just remove ’em!”
Reasonable people seem reluctant to face the facts because the the truth sounds so inflammatory, but it is still the truth: the GOP has turned crypto-fascist — just read the transcripts of any of Trump’s speeches over the past year. He espouses messianic fascism, plain and simple: there is an enemy within (gay Marxists are the boogeyman of the moment), and he is the savior who will MAGA… Yet Trump remains the most popular candidate among Republicans in virtually every major poll. We must face the reality that one of America’s two political parties does NOT want an informed, educated citizenry to participate in a free democracy. It is sad and horrifying

What the fuck is wrong with people? Their entire identity is their politics. So fucking petty.

Here in NYC, we’re throwing a fit (rightfully) because our Mayor wants to cut our libraries’ budget.
Meanwhile, in Missouri, they’re just cutting it all off.
It’s really weird hearing about this kind of stuff happening out there. It makes our fights here seem like first-world problems.
