This is what legislation is for… Nobody wants to be inconvenienced or have their personal wealth negatively impacted, but guess what, it is every day in thousands of ways, by laws that are required for various reasons that make society and the world better to live in.
I wish the government gave massive subsidies/grants/tax breaks to encourage all of us (in the UK) to adopt solar and ground source/ air source heat pumps.
If you consider how much the government has spent on illegal wars across the Middle East, it could afford the above in a heartbeat.
Because there’s only so much that individuals have control over. If corporations changed their packaging materials to more eco friendly things than one use plastic wrap and styrofoam, it would do a hell of a lot more good than the farce that is our pretend recycling system.
Well if they don’t adequately address climate change, then they’ll get the climate they deserve – with unfortunately catastrophic impacts in poorer countries.
The article stinks, it frames there’s only 1 way to fight climate change. Corporations are responsible for most emissions. “BuT WhO are thE CorPOrATIONS sELLING to?” Well, they are the ones making profit off the pollution, legislation which targets the corporation rather than consumer are much more effective as 1. It actually addresses climate change. 2. Targets the ones who actually profit off of it.
We have a capitalist system but redditors act like its the endpoint is that consumers who benefit from the pollution but ignore those who are actually profiting off of it. Target the profiteers.
