For anyone not actually reading the article, these are “Kite Runner”-style fighting kites, with bladed strings designed to cut. They’re incredibly dangerous, and the article doesn’t explain how there was such colossal neglect to allow this to happen, when apparently kite fighting is an existing tradition in the area.
In addition to the 6 deaths, 130 people were hurt by the strings, and 46 were hurt by falling off rooftops.
Is it…. normal for kite strings to be coated in fuckin glass??? Or is that just specifically for “kite battles” (had no idea that was a thing until now)

Some countries have intense kite flying competitions. They often use string designed to cut their opponents kites in aerial battles.

This happens every year. It’s a kite-fighting festival. Deaths are not uncommon.

If you refuse to stop flying deadly kites, at least wear neck armour.

As a child, I read a cool story about a demon kite that was based in these razor-string battles, the tradition was Anglo-Pakistani in the story.
