So, a sail
We’ve invented sailing
ho does this even fit the sub? Tankers have been using Kites for almost two decades now.
Amazing. harnessing the power of the wind. What other technological advances will they come up with next.
More accurately a spinnaker. As long as wind is abaft the beam, fairly controllable.
So are they actually using kites or did they just want to call a sail something different? Because kites are a pain in the ass when they’re small. I couldn’t imagine trying to manage a giant one.
Just use a sail, damnit.
This was news years ago.
This is actually SUPER cool. Traditional sails can’t move modern cargo ships, so they said, “Ok. What would a non-traditional sail that COULD move them look like?”
Some of the most egregious polluters are cargo ships. They burn the dirtiest fuel and their carbon footprint is enormous.
Anything to lessen this would be fantastic.
The idea for this is at least ten years or more old, and I’ve yet to see a single ship use it. Just like all these fucking battery breakthroughs that never amount to anything close to longer life batteries in cell phones.
I read that as “kitties”, could have been a way cooler story
You mean the wind could propel a ship? What’s next, streams powering grain mills?
Wind power ships, what a time to be alive
The future, brought to you by the past!
