ELI5: Where does water go during low-tide?

| Category: Explain

There’s a lot of water on beaches in high-tide but where does this water go once it is low-tide? Does it concentrate elsewhere?

Petwins: Yup, usually towards where ever the moon is. The water gets pulled by the moons gravitational pull and there is actually a little bump (on a planetary scale) where the water is slightly raised by it.

Jackal876: When it’s low tide where you are it’s high tide on the other side of the Earth. The gravitational force of the moon pulls the water.

wonchokoosey: Soooo what kind of paint is that and how many tide cycles does the graffiti last?

Cool concept

Pun_Crasher_Disaster: Terminator 2 version would be cool at the end when he gets lowered down the steel mill with thumb up.

curaga12: I’m not saying I hate the graffiti but it’s gonna freak some people seeing it at night.

airpolly: This piece has been brought to you by….THE MOON!

DumbassJ: Damn that’s cool!

usrnmsux: That was directly behind my apt in Saint John nb Canada. It was done this summer & almost completely gone now.
