> THE FACTS: A popular Instagram post in recent days has revived erroneous claims about causes of death in the U.S., misrepresenting data from the FBI and the CDC.
> “Rifles of any kind were involved in 297 deaths last year, in America,” it states. “Constipation killed 2,167.” The post had received more than 1,600 likes as of Monday.
Must be a slow news day if you’re fact checking IG posts with 1600 likes. Over/under on the article author having seen the post in her feed, retweeted/shared by a friend or family member, and this article is a passive-aggressive response to that person?
But we hear quite a lot about banning rifles.
Not so much about handguns, which are more commonly used in both homicide and suicide.
Just rifles.
You know, the things you could resist a government with in case they decided to seize your property and institute forced relocation to concentration camps.
Edit: Apparently people get mad when you point this out. It’s like they *want* more people to die with rifles and they’re mad that more aren’t.

More people are bludgeoned to death than killed with any kind of rifle in the US annually.

Truthfully, constipation only kills about half as many people as rifles each year.
Things that also kill more people than rifles in the US yearly.
Accidental drowning (about 6x)
Accidental falls (about 80x)
Accidental poisoning/overdose (about 140x)
