This is a really slippery slope argument I will have to research this cake further. Because if someone is religious and they independently own their bakery and they do not want to make such cake idk how you can force them to. But then again on the flip side what if someones black and the baker is racist and doesn’t want to make a cake with a black kid on it. That’s the slipper slope these type of cases have. What’s discrimination and what’s impeding on someones morality and business. If I was a trans person I simply wouldn’t patron at a place like this and just review bomb them.
It’s a dude refusing to make a cake. His rationale is his own, and businesses have the right to refuse business. This isn’t that insane, and people need to get the fuck over themselves. Dude legit just said ‘I don’t agree with this, I won’t celebrate it’.
That said, nobody is required to celebrate you, ever. Stop acting like they should. Equality is respecting your right to do what you want with your life/body, it doesn’t mean people have to applaud you. Don’t like that one guy won’t bake your trans cake, go TO A DIFFERENT BAKER. God fucking damn I’m so sick of people trying to make not getting their way some sort of political issue when 99% of the time it’s fucking not.
> The controversy began in 2017 when Autumn Scardina, called Phillips’ cake shop **requesting a birthday cake that had blue frosting on the outside and was pink inside.**
Folks are just making this guy bend the knee now. Ignore him and move on. Gender reveal parties were cringe enough. This movement is just plain dickish.
If this goes to the Supreme Court he’ll win again. Thanks for wasting everyone’s time.
It baffles me that anyone supportive of the LG TQIA community let alone LGBTQIA people would even consider giving that guy their business. Could not pay me to eat any of his bigoted cakes.
Good. Until I start seeing these shops refuse service to divorcees, those who cheat, those with children out of wedlock, plus a half dozen other more prominent sins in the bible, I’m not buying that these folks are about Christianity or morals; they’re about hating on LGBTQ, that’s all this is, and they’re phony Christians.
If I run my own business it should be up to me wrong or right who I take on as a customer. Word of mouth will spread and either help your reputation or destroy it.
Why are these cake/wedding debacles always in Colorado? There’s the lady with the wedding website business who currently has a case working through the courts and if my memory serves me correctly the other big gay wedding cake case that made it to the Supreme Court was also out of Colorado. I know Colorado is a fairly progressive place for the most part so I just find the frequency of these sorts of legal issues cropping up in the same state.
So it’s against his religion, huh? I wonder if he would bake a cake for a bank that charges interest on loans? The Bible is pretty opposed to that too.
Or is this more bigotry disguised as “religious liberty”?
