I used to think American governments merely tolerated civil rights abuses. But now I think they actually want our civil rights to be abused. Every time I read a story like this one I get a little more disgusted about government and more determined to work for change.
Police departments protect bad cops, mayors protect chiefs who protect bad cops, Supreme Court rulings protect abuses, legislators write unconstitutional laws, multiple jeopardy and forced plea bargaining are standard, civil asset forfeiture is armed robbery, and the whole system protects itself.
It’s going to take a lot of concerned citizens to fix this mess. We need to start by voting en masse and getting good people in office.
