I mean, the fatphobia stuff is amusing, but I’m honestly shocked about “the average American waist circumference measures 40.5 inches for men and 38.7 inches for women, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”
I’m a pretty big guy and definitely on the chubby side but even my waist isn’t that wide.
The last time I was at 6 flags (tsatu, one of the best roller coasters) was taking a long to load because a poor kid couldn’t get his latch to click. This coaster has 4 seats per row and he was with three friends… I felt it in my stomach when all the restraints were lifted so that he could get out. I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone.
I’m a chubby guy. I’ve basically been between 36-38 waistline for years if I’m reading this right. I don’t eat as much as I used to, I avoid soda and alcohol, and exercise twice a week.
~~Disney~~ Universal probably wrongly assumed that this ride would primarily cater to children, not grown-ass shut-ins who can’t get over their own childhood.
I’m surprized there is a lot of “this is for children” in this thread. I am 38 and grew up playing mariokart with my brother on the snes – i would love to go on this ride. This is a multi-generational game <3

Maybe I live in some very fit microcosm of the US but I never would have that that the average american guy was that fat.

Nice job, Disney, in not recognizing your own customer base.

Hearing that 40 is just that big is depressing.

I wonder if this is a consequence of how statistics works (like how the average person has like 0.97 testicles) or just made up.

Holy shit, that’s average?

The ride has a recommended max waist size of 40″.
Amusement parks are supposed to be for the kids, and there aren’t nearly as many kids with 40″ waistlines.
The options are make it safe for children, or allow it to accommodate obese people. I care much more about letting kids ride than overweight adults.
If you are that overweight, maybe worry less about fitting in seats and start worrying about getting some exercise.
